More Success for Able One

New Zealand Bloodstock graduate Able One romped home to win the Group 2 Cathay Pacific Jockey Club Mile (1600m) with ease at Sha Tin on Sunday.

The eight-year-old was gifted the lead early from the 12 horse field putting him in a position that makes him very nearly invincible over his favored distance of a mile. In his trademark trip Able One kicked at the turn and although Thumbs Up ran on very strongly to close the gap to three quarters of a length, Able One was never in danger.

The son of Cape Cross was ridden by jockey Darren Beadman and is trained by John Moore who was surprised at Able One's gifted win.

"I couldn't believe it when he was just allowed to go out there and dictate like that," said Moore.

"When you give Able One that sort of lead you've got a hard job in front of you."

Out of Gardenia (Danehill) Able One was bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Justine Hogan at their Cambridge Stud. Initially sold at the 2004 Karaka Select Sale for $190,000 Able One was then pinhooked to top the 2004 Ready to Run Sale where he was snapped up by Paul Beamish Bloodstock for $270,000 from Phoenix Park. Able One is owned by Dr & Mrs Cornel Li Fook Kwan.

Named Hong Kong Champion Miler 2010, Able One has amassed an impressive A$4,298,024 from 34 starts.

He is now likely to be a favoured runner for the richest international mile, the HK$16,000,000 Group 1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile on the December 12.
