New Director of NZ Trade Office in Taiwan Appointed

New Director of New Zealand Trade Office in Taiwan Appointed

Stephen Payton has been appointed Director of the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office (NZCIO) in Taipei, the Chief Executive of the Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce, Ken Harris, announced today.

NZCIO is a subsidiary of the Wellington Chamber and promotes New Zealand’s economic and cultural interests in Taiwan.

“Taiwan is important to New Zealand as our tenth largest export market and a significant source of investment, visitors and migrants,” Mr Harris said. “Annual two-way trade currently stands at around NZ$1.5 billion.”

“The Wellington Chamber is keen to strengthen trade and investment links with Taiwan. Mr Payton is well-qualified to achieve this through his knowledge of the region and his extensive economic and trade experience.”

Stephen Payton will join the staff of the Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, where he has most recently been Head of the APEC Unit in Wellington. He has previously been the Deputy Head of Mission in both Brussels and Suva and Consul General in Osaka.

Mr Payton will take up his position in early 2011. He succeeds Michelle Slade who is returning to Wellington.
