Fast broadband contracts prove smart energy = smart Deals
New Ultra-Fast broadband contracts prove smart energy = smart deals, says EMANZ
The Energy Management Association (EMANZ) believes that the decision to award Northpower and Ultra Fast Fibre Limited, owned by WEL Networks, the Ultra-Fast broadband rollouts in the North Island are a clear sign that businesses need to ensure their energy management strategy is sustainable.
EMANZ executive officer, Ewan Gebbie, believes that the selection of these electricity lines companies was closely linked to their track records in energy management, and their strategic approach to the convergence between utility services.
“More and more, the contract bid process looks at a company holistically rather than just its technical capabilities in just one area. As well as demonstrating their ability to complete the work, organisations have to prove that they are sustainable and manage resources effectively.
“I believe that the Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Stephen Joyce, should also be commended for understanding the link between smart energy use and smart communications capability.”
Mr Gebbie said “energy efficiency has been closely linked to climate change response. Therefore an organisation that efficiently manages its energy resources is more likely to have a sustainable business model, through to reduced costs, enhanced productivity and a more environmentally conscious outlook.
“This is what more contract tenders are looking for. If companies aren’t thinking about their energy efficiency, they could be missing out.”
Northpower is a Sustaining Member of EMANZ and WEL Networks is a Corporate Partner.
The two organisations have been awarded contracts to roll out fibre in Whangarei, Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Hawera and Tokoroa, starting this month.
