Greater benefits for SBS Bank non profit groups
Greater benefits for SBS Bank non profit groups

“We recently took our banking to SBS Bank and it’s a refreshing change!”
New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC) executive officer Ollie Clifton says the support and personal touch from the team at their Riccarton branch of SBS Bank, in Christchurch, had been fantastic since their club moved their banking to a SBS Star account specifically designed for non-profit organisations.
“SBS Bank seems to have a real empathy and understanding of community organisations like ourselves and they are very willing to tailor banking solutions that meet our specific needs.
“We recently won a $1000 SBS Star account monthly prize and it was a very pleasant surprise to be honest. We have also had the benefit of receiving several hundred dollars more from a previous Star Investment Special they ran.” Mr Clifton said.
NZAC is among more than 200 non-profit clubs and societies to have shared $350,000 that SBS Bank has now given away through its 10 monthly prize draws of $1000 and, to further reward their hard-working community stars, SBS Bank has brought back its limited edition Star Investment Special.
The SBS Star Investment Special allows investors taking out a new fixed term investment of six months or longer to nominate their chosen SBS Star account club or society to receive a bonus payment from SBS Bank.
Mr Clifton said their club was currently in the midst of a major fundraising project, the biggest project NZAC had ever undertaken. The rebuilding of Unwin Lodge in Mt Cook village would cost close to $600,000, so every dollar counted and that was where SBS Bank really looked after non-profit groups like its club.
“There always seems to be additional benefits that we receive over and above the great support and service they give us every day,” Mr Clifton said.
“As a growing club, we’ll have more large scale ambitions and projects to complete in the future – as we take on these challenges, it’ll be great to have SBS Bank supporting us. We look forward to building a closer relationship with them.”
Hokonui Bowling Club treasurer Andrew MacGregor said their club thoroughly appreciated the support of the SBS Bank team in Gore and the features of the SBS Star account.
“We have been the proud recipients of a Star Investment Special bonus payment from SBS Bank in the past and it was a wonderful surprise to have several hundred dollars unexpectedly turn up in our account because every bit helps.
“As a non-profit organisation, we really value that the team at SBS Bank makes an effort to help us in any way they can and it’s nice to know that every bit of money our club works so hard to raise is safe in a New Zealand-owned bank. The SBS Star banking package has been great for us and it is nice to know we may be able score another bonus in the near future through the new Star Investment Special.”
SBS Bank general manager corporate performance Lana Winders said since the introduction of the SBS Star Investment Special, more than 600 non-profit groups had received bonus payments from SBS Bank.
“With support from our investors, the SBS Star Investment Special is an opportunity to give our SBS Star account holders a boost to start the year off. We’ve had an overwhelming response from investors wanting to support the local groups that they’re passionate about during the past five specials that we have run and the feedback from bonus payment recipients has been fantastic.
“As a community bank, we like to be responsive to the needs of our members and our communities. The SBS Star Investment Special is a way we can help our non-profit clubs and societies reap even more benefits from the products and services we can offer them,” Mrs Winders said.
The SBS Star Investment Special opens on Monday 31 January and runs for a limited time only.
