Ricoh Named in Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations

Ricoh New Zealand’s parent company, Ricoh Group, has been selected as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, the seventh year in a row it has won the prestigious accolade.

“There is no doubt that after the quality of our people, Ricoh’s environmental sustainability credentials are the next most important factor in our success,” says Ricoh New Zealand Managing Director Mike Pollok. “Ricoh is an industry leader in taking responsibility and reporting on its impact on the environment, which includes Ricoh New Zealand’s certified carbon neutrality through the carboNZeroCertTM programme.

“We at Ricoh New Zealand are focused on sustainable growth for our own business and that of our customers,” says Mr Pollok. “Our initiatives in this area result in reductions in variable costs for our customers such as energy, paper, freight and fuel. This is sustainability everyone can understand and support.”

The rankings are awarded by Corporate Knights magazine and announced in Switzerland. They are awarded to companies that display, better than most of their industry peers, the ability to identify and effectively manage environmental, social and governance factors that impact opportunity and risk in their business.

The 2011 Global 100 gathered intelligence from the world's largest sustainability research alliance put together by Legg Mason’s Global Currents Investment Management and Phoenix Global Advisors LLC to isolate the top 10 per cent of companies from 3,000 global stocks. These were then transparently ranked based on 10 indicators, with data collected by Corporate Knights Research Group and verified with The BLOOMBERG PROFESSIONAL® service.

Ricoh New Zealand actively promotes sustainability with its staff, suppliers and customers. Ricoh New Zealand implements environmental and sustainability initiatives through its branches nationwide, and has completed its third annual Sustainability Report, to the Global Reporting Initiative standard (GRI G3). As part of its customer service, Ricoh New Zealand provides free collection for used toner cartridges and used machines. Ricoh machines are either remanufactured for reuse or recycled. Recycling is carried out locally in New Zealand. Ricoh products are specifically designed to enable recycling – up to 98 per cent of Ricoh products are fully recyclable.

Ricoh products are ENERGY STAR compliant, and Ricoh New Zealand was the first in the local industry to be certified under ISO 14001, as well the first in the industry to have its products accredited with the Environmental Choice tick. In 2008, Ricoh became the first document solutions company in New Zealand to become carbon neutral. This has been recognised by the achievement of carboNZeroCert™ certification.
