Media Release 26 March 2011

Lotto Powerball Jackpots To A Record-Equalling $28 Million

It was a big night for Lotto, with Powerball jackpotting to a record-equalling $28 million, Lotto First Division being shared all around the country, and Lotto presenter Russell Harrison fare-welling the nation on his last draw, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

“Last October, a Papakura man won $28.7 million with Lotto and Powerball combined, but if sales are strong next week, a player could go down in history as potentially being the biggest Lotto Powerball winner ever,” says Mr McLeay.

Four players won a $250,000 share of Lotto’s First division tonight. The winning Lotto tickets were sold at Pak n Save Te Awamutu, Winton New World, Pak N Save Petone, and Lotto 'N' Things in Oamaru.

Strike Four was also struck tonight with a ticket sold at Mairangi Bay Dairy & Lotto winning $238,435.

Meanwhile at the live Lotto draw, Balclutha woman Rhonda spun and won a $100,000 credit card on the Winning Wheel in Wellington this evening.

Tonight’s Winning Wheel ticket was bought at Chartwell Lotto in Hamilton. The serial number is 035 26951993-20xx.

“It was a big night at the draw, with a great win for Rhonda, the excitement around the Powerball jackpot, but also saying haere ra to Lotto draw presenter Russell Harrison,” says Mr McLeay.

“After 11 years with Lotto, Russell is moving on to new ventures, and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Anyone who bought their ticket from any of the above winning stores should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it immediately at any Lotto outlet.
