No More Wallets With New Subway® App

No More Wallets With New Subway® App

New Zealand’s largest quick service restaurant chain has launched an innovative new app, making SUBCARD® the first national loyalty card available on mobile in New Zealand.

The new loyalty system includes on-screen QR barcode* IDs which can be scanned in-store to accrue and redeem SUBCARD® balances. This new technology is combined with the facility to send special offers directly to mobile customers which also breaks new ground for mobile apps both in New Zealand and worldwide.

The SUBWAY® App works on iPhone, Java and Windows 7 platforms, as well as Android operating systems.

The combination of new features allows SUBWAY® customers to go through the entire SUBWAY® ordering and payment process simply by using their mobile.

“Since we launched our first SUBWAY® App in August 2010 we’ve received regular requests for an app that works on Android too,” says Jo Reynolds, SUBCARD® Manager “The SUBWAY® App can now locate stores, order, pay using preloaded gift, redeem offers and earn loyalty.“

“If you have a SUBCARD® gift balance you’ll be able to place your order and pay for your meal using your mobile. Now there’s no need for your wallet – you’ll simply swipe the QR code on your smartphone.”

The updated SUBWAY® App comes with a host of new features including:

• A personal 2D code (QR code)

• Reward Dollars earned by simply scanning a mobile loaded with the SUBWAY® App

• Load cash to pay for meals (traditional and virtual)

• Review current Reward and Gift balances on your phone and recent transactions

• Update your details

• Exclusive vouchers received by activated customers will now be sent direct to phone - no need to print out and bring in store. Vouchers available on smart phones only.

App users will be able to continue to place orders from the full SUBWAY® menu, keep track of their SUBCARD® Reward Dollars and gift balances and locate their closest store based on their current location.

The SUBWAY® App has been created by New Zealand mobile technology development company, Altaine.

“The new scanner will read the QR code on your smartphone – allowing customers to redeem or earn Reward Dollars and receive an updated balance receipt in real time,” says Reynolds.

The SUBWAY® App is free to download from smart phone app stores or text SUBWAY to 5757. There are over 200 SUBWAY® restaurants in New Zealand. The most recently opened SUBWAY® restaurants include Browns Bay (Auckland), Lincoln (Canterbury) and Huntly.

* What is a QR code and what do I do with it?

A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode. If you have a camera phone, you can check if it has an inbuilt QR code reader or you can easily download a QR code reader application. Using the reader, scan the image of the QR code which will allow you to download the SUBWAY® App straight to your phone.
