MusicHype Nabs NY-based Digital Expert as CEO

Tech entrepreneur Kevin King joins MusicHype with a passion for innovation & music.

Social music start-up MusicHype has hired technology expert Kevin King as CEO to lead the company’s expansion into the US market. With over 15 years experience in the digital, media and music space Kevin King brings his digerati network & skills to lead and grow MusicHype.com.

Kevin's most recent role was Director of BD & Advertising at Blip.FM, (aka “Twitter for Music”) a service that allows music fans to put context around the music that matters to them and follow like-minded taste makers. Kevin also advises several other US based music start-ups and consults on a variety of international digital music projects, including Mobbase, which allows any musician to easily build and share a mobile app for their band.

Kevin says, “For nearly ten years, I have envisioned the music industry evolving into an omnipresent, always-on, cloud architecture where music discovery is enabled and fostered through technology. Removing the physical media barrier strengthens a fan's ability to hear and share limitless amounts of music, while creating a whole new layer of discovery inside social networks."

Launching in early 2010 the company has worked with significant local acts like the Mint Chicks and Katchafire, as well as promoting Crowded House on their North American tour. Last year the Wellington based company was a finalist in the 2010 NZ Open Source Awards in Business, and selected to present in Cannes, France, at the international music event MIDEM. With seed investment from WebFund and angel investment from the Rutherford Innovation Fund, MusicHype is ready to scale in North America. Co-founders Jeff Mitchell (Chief Technology Officer) and Annabel Youens (Chief Marketing Officer) are relocating to the US in May.
