Race To Find New Zealand’s Most Tender Steak

The semi-finalists for the 2011 Beef + Lamb New Zealand Steak of Origin Competition, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Genetics, have been announced.

Nearly 400 entries were tested for tenderness by Carne Technologies, with the top 20 percent in each of five categories going on to compete in the semi-finals at Addington Raceway in Christchurch on Thursday 5 May.

The semi-finalists are:

The top four from each class will be selected by a panel of chefs, meat industry personnel and celebrity judges to go forward to the final at Beef Expo, Feilding on 17 May.

A public tasting, to be held on 7 May at Hamilton Marist Rugby Club, will contribute to 10 percent of the final marks.
