"We are very pleased and grateful to have the
support of the sponsors for this inaugural event. They are
supporting all who are striving to understand the challenges
that we face in respect to the Internet," says Chief
Executive Vikram Kumar.
InternetNZ announced at the end
of March that it would invest heavily in the event to reduce
the price of registration to just $30 excluding GST. “The
aim was to remove barriers to entry for all sectors and
communities with an interest in the Internet and the issues
that arise around it, and it appears to have worked,” says
Kumar.

“We are very happy that many people have responded by not leaving their registrations to the last minute. We are seeing a wide variety of registrations – from individuals, businesses, government and community groups. NetHui will be a truly multi-stakeholder event and the discussion format means everyone can engage.
“At this rate of registrations, and with the Kiwi propensity for last minute action, we encourage people to register now so as to avoid disappointment, and to arrange any necessary travel and accommodation ahead of time.”
InternetNZ also announced
last month that Harvard Professor Lawrence Lessig will be a
keynote speaker at NetHui 2011.

“Professor Lessig is a global thought leader in areas such as copyright, civil liberties, privacy and government control of the Internet. The announcement that Professor Lessig will be a keynote speaker has created quite a buzz. We look forward to welcoming him to New Zealand to speak on Friday 1 July,” says Kumar.
