New Zealand’s Invivo Wines will be back on the international stage supporting New Zealand’s presence at the world renowned 54th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia, often referred to as the Olympics of the art world. New Zealand will be represented at this Biennale by contemporary artist Michael Parekowhai and his stunning installation “On first looking into Chapman’s Homer”
The gala opening event on June.1st is being held at the Palazzo Loredan dell’Ambasciatore on the Grand Canal in Venice, and will see Invivo participate in creating a traditional New Zealand themed BBQ . With hundreds of international VIP guests and media invited, Invivo co founder Tim Lightbourne will be in Venice setting up an Invivo winebar to compliment the New Zealand cuisine, serving Invivo’s award winning Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Rosé. Lightbourne comments, “Invivo is proud to be back in Venice supporting Creative New Zealand, we know from the successful 2009 exhibition, the Venice Biennale is a great opportunity for us to showcase our wines on an international stage and demonstrate our continued support to the creative industries”
New Zealand’s Exhibition Commissioner Jenny Harper states, “The Venice team is very pleased to be celebrating another great Biennale project with our partners, Invivo Wines.” Leading New Zealand and international artists that have displayed at the prestigious event include Michael Stevenson, Francis Upritchard, et al, Judy Millar and the United Kingdom’s Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.
Michael Parekowhai’s installation includes one intricately-carved Steinway concert grand piano and two concert grands fabricated in bronze supporting two cast bronze bulls.
