Runs Them Ragged
The John O'Shea trained Legsman made light work of his rivals in the Listed Little Bottler Winter Cup (2400m) as he led all the way to record his first black-type win at Rosehill on Saturday.
In a gem of a ride from Jim Cassidy, Legsman (Pins x Snobbish) was six lengths clear of his rivals at the 1200 metre mark, and turned for home with a three length lead on the field. Fellow NZ bred Tullamore (Savabeel) put up a game effort to claim second, but Legsman was too tough and hit the line on tired legs to win the Listed event by one length.
It was the five-year-old's fifth career win, and the 41st individual stakes winner for his sire Pins, making it a stakes winning double for Waikato Stud stallions with Scarlett Lady taking the Oaks for Savabeel.
Legsman was purchased by John O'Shea Bloodstock from Waikato Stud for $105,000 at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale. He has now won over A$250,000.
A full-sister to Legsman was purchased by New Zealand Bloodstock as agent for $7,500 at the 2011 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale.
Bragato Gets His Black-Type
The Richard Joostens trained Bragato notched up his first black-type victory over the weekend with a good win in the Listed AG Challenge Stakes (1600m) at Wanganui on Saturday.
Well rated by jockey Michael Coleman, with the heavy weight of 59 kilograms, Bragato (Brilliance x Yarra Rose) was stoked up at the 700 metres and brought around the field on the home corner. Too strong in the straight, the six-year-old kicked away to hold off Yeshi Shinko (Shinko King) and Spare A Fortune (Spartacus) to win by two-and-a-half lengths.
The win was Bragato's sixth from 39 appearances, and has taken his stakes earnings to over $88,000.
Bragato was offered by Grangewilliam Stud at the 2006 Karaka Festival Sale.
Testa Secret Takes the Castletown
Trainer Kevin Gray looks to have a smart filly on his hands with Testa Secret now two from two after winning yesterday's Listed Castletown Stakes at Foxton.
Well ridden by Lisa Allpress, Testa Secret (Testa Rossa x Acacian Secret) was kept a little better than mid-field before the two-year-old was brought wide on the turn. Looking to be held at the 200 metres, the daughter of Testa Rossa produced a smart turn-of-foot, and in a well timed run from Allpress, ran down race leader Elusive Red (Elusive City) to record a strong three-quarters-of-a-length victory.
Allpress has ridden Testa Secret in both her starts, her debut win coming in the Manawatu on April 8. Both of her wins have been on heavy footing but her trainer Kevin Gray is confident that the filly will be just as competitive on good ground. The daughter of Testa Rossa will now head to the spelling paddock before returning for the spring classics.
Testa Secret was offered by Hallmark Stud at the 2010 Karaka Premier Sale.
