Takeovers Panel Announces Appointment Of New Chief Executive

Mr David Jones, Chairman of the Takeovers Panel, has today announced the appointment of Ms Margaret Bearsley to the position of Chief Executive of the Panel, effective from 1 July 2011.

Ms Bearsley is currently the Panel’s General Counsel. Prior to joining the Panel in 2004 Ms Bearsley held professional appointments with the Securities Commission, the Ministry of Economic Development, and in private practice.

Mr Jones said that the Panel had engaged Heidrick & Struggles, a leading professional recruitment firm to undertake a search for a new Chief Executive to replace the incumbent, Kerry Morrell, on his forthcoming retirement. “The process has been quite long and very comprehensive, involving a global search” Mr Jones said. He added “The Panel is delighted that, following such an extensive search, Margaret was identified as the best candidate for the position. I am confident that her appointment will be well received in the market

Mr Jones took the opportunity to pay tribute to the retiring Chief Executive, Kerry Morrell, whose term of appointment ends on 30 June 2011. “Kerry is the Panel’s first Chief Executive, having been appointed to that position in April 2008. However, he has effectively led the Panel’s executive staff since the Code came into force in July 2001.” Mr Jones added that “Kerry leaves the Panel executive team in great shape and goes with our best wishes.”
