Air New Zealand flights to and from Christchurch – Update 3

Christchurch Airport’s runway has reopened, with Air New Zealand resuming its operations to and from the city, although with some delays for the remainder of the evening.

A number of flights were cancelled this afternoon due to the runway closure. Customers who were due to travel on these flights are advised to contact Air New Zealand via our Customer Call Centre (0800 737 000), and may either rebook on one of the next available flights, defer their travel to a later Air New Zealand flight in the same booking class inside 12-months of the original date of travel without penalty, or hold the value of the ticket in credit for payment towards travel within the same 12-month validity.

Additional flights operating today

Air New Zealand is operating four extra services this evening, in addition to its existing schedule:
o Auckland – Christchurch operated by a 133 seat Boeing 737-300
o Wellington – Christchurch operated by a 171 seat Airbus A320
o Auckland – Christchurch operated by a 171 seat Airbus A320
o Christchurch – Auckland operated by a 171 seat Airbus A320
o
Ticketing Flexibility

We understand that some of our customers’ need to travel may now have changed, so Air New Zealand has introduced ticketing flexibility on all fare types for those due to travel to and from Christchurch. The options are as follows for passengers ticketed prior to the Monday 13 June.

o Passengers ticketed for travel to and from Christchurch prior to and including Monday 13 June may defer their travel to a later Air New Zealand flight in the same booking class inside 12-months of the original date of travel without penalty. If only higher booking classes are available, the fare differential will apply. If the proposed date of travel is unknown, then the value of the ticket may be held in credit for payment towards travel within the same 12-month validity.
o
o Passengers ticketed to travel to/from Christchurch prior to and including Monday 13 June may change their travel to another Air New Zealand destination without penalty. In this instance any applicable fare differential will apply.
o
o Passengers who are ticketed and wish to bring their travel to/from Christchurch forward to a date on/prior to Friday 17 June may do so in the same cabin (regardless of booking class) without penalty and fare difference. If a cabin upgrade is required the fare differential will apply.
o
o Any incidental costs and penalties such as accommodation etc will be the passengers own responsibility.
o
Air New Zealand will continue to monitor the situation in Christchurch and advise of any further updates.
