Rosie The Cowbassador Moooves The Crowds At Fieldays
DairyNZ says it’s delighted with the success of Rosie the Cowbassador, who was officially launched at the National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek.
“She was a huge hit with everyone from children to their grandparents,” says Chief Rosie Wrangler, DairyNZ’s Sarah Fraser.
Rosie is a three-year-old Friesian-Jersey cross who leaves her farm to discover what makes the New Zealand industry one of the best in the world. At Fieldays she was accompanied by members of her VIB (Very Important Bovine) protection squad.
“We created the concept of Rosie to promote cows to New Zealanders. There are 4.4 million cows and 4.4 million New Zealanders, but not enough people are familiar with them,” she says.
DairyNZ staff handed out more than 4,000 Rosie packs at the Go Dairy stand, where visitors could watch mooovies of Rosie on her website www.godairy.co.nz , sign up to follow her on Facebook, as well as having their photo taken with her and getting Rosie tattoos and stickers.
“We had a tremendous reception to her, with retired farmers saying it was great to have something to be able to connect their grandchildren back to farming, farmers saying they thought it an excellent investment of their levy, through to mothers thanking us for providing an activity for children at Fieldays,” says Sarah.
Rosie is also a feature on a new primary school education website which is being launched in July. It contains curriculum-related teaching units, digital texts, and digital learning objects, all of which use dairying as a context for learning. The first phase is for Curriculum Level 1 and 2, with material for Curriculum Levels 3-7 being developed as well.
Rosie has been created for DairyNZ by King St Advertising and Flux Animation.
