Interislander Disruptions

Interislander Disruptions

Interislander Cook Strait ferry services are being disrupted this week because of issues caused by staff illness and weather.

Interislander general manager Thomas Davis said the morning sailings of Kaitaki from Wellington at 8.25am and the ship’s early afternoon sailing from Picton at 1.45pm would be cancelled from tomorrow till Sunday inclusive, because of a number of unrelated illnesses amongst several of the ship’s masters.

“We now have insufficient familiarised masters to operate Kaitaki.”

Arahura will sail each day at 2.40pm from Wellington and 6.40pm from Picton, carrying extra passengers affected by the Kaitaki cancellations.

Mr Davis said Arahura would be crewed at high season levels to enable extra passengers to be carried during the affected times.

“We appreciate that this disruption is bad for our passengers, and our freight customers. We apologise for the delays, and we are working as hard as possible to ensure that those delays are as minimal as possible.”

Strong southerly swells are also affecting sailing times, causing delays.
