InternetNZ signs on as platinum sponsor for Barcamp Auckland

Media Release - 4 July 2011

InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) is proud to announce it has signed on as the major sponsor for the fifth annual Barcamp Auckland Unconference.

Barcamp Auckland is being held on Saturday 16 July in East Auckland. It is a free event, unique for its ‘unconference’ format. Unconferences are facilitated, participant-driven conferences; everybody who attends also presents and contributes to the agenda.

New Zealand-based web designers/developers and creative technologists will gather at Barcamp Auckland to discuss technical topics including HTML5, Native OS, Design/UI and ‘productivity’.

The event will also feature a panel of politicians and technologists, focussing on the role the Internet will play in New Zealand over the next few years. The panel, moderated by Internet entrepreneur Lance Wiggs, consists of National Party MP Sam Lotu-Liga, Green Party MP Gareth Hughes, Labour Party MP Clare Curran, IP Lawyer Tim Mullins, Blogger David Farrar, TUANZ CEO Paul Brislen and InternetNZ Chief Executive Vikram Kumar.

Barcamp Auckland founder Ludwig Wendzich says "We make sure that attendees can create the conference they want to see. Barcamp is a many-to-many event as opposed to a one-to-many event. Everyone should participate in the conversation, not just the person on stage with a microphone in their hand. Conversation is generally more interesting and useful than monologue, and that’s what Barcamp is all about".

InternetNZ Chief Executive Vikram Kumar says InternetNZ is delighted to be supporting the event, which promises to be a great opportunity for New Zealand’s web technical community to engage with one another face-to-face.
