ASB to open new branch in Mount Maunganui

Media release

12 July 2011

ASB to open new branch in Mount Maunganui

ASB customers in Mount Maunganui will soon benefit from the latest in branch banking technology with the opening of a new branch at 143 Maunganui Road next month.

Branch manager Mike Williams says the decision to open a new branch towards the northern end of the Mount Maunganui peninsula reflects customer growth and increased business activity in the area.

"We've been investing in the Bay of Plenty area since we opened our first branch in Tauranga almost two decades ago. We believe that the Mount will continue to grow over the coming years - and this investment was necessary to meet the anticipated increase in demand from our retail customers and small business customers."

ASB has also maintained a strong community involvement in the local area. "We're very proud supporters of the local St John team, and we are also actively involved with our local schools, especially in fundraising activities. Our team of four people at the new branch are looking forward to continuing our support for the local Mount Maunganui community," Mr Williams says.

ASB already has four branches in Tauranga - at 1 Spring Street in central Tauranga, Papamoa, Greerton, and a newly refurbished seven day branch in the Bayfair shopping complex.

In August 2010 ASB announced a $100 million investment that would see construction of 25 new branches and refurbishment of a further 117 over the next five years. "This very significant investment programme shows ASB's confidence in the future of New Zealand," Mr Williams says.

The new branch will expand and extend on many of the design philosophies and features already seen in ASB's branches.

It will offer the very latest in banking technology including:

* FastNet banking in-branch for ASB customers to use.

* FastChange - A convenient change machine so that customers can get change for their businesses when it suits them, not just during bank hours.

* FastDeposit - a quick and convenient way to deposit money.

* The latest ASB ATMs.

* FastCount - a coin sorting machine located in the branch. No need for customers to sort or bag coins before they come into the branch - our FastCount machine will do this for them.

* Video conference phones for customers to access a wide range of ASB specialists face to face.

"We are also looking after the social needs of our customers with couches and coffee facilities in-branch. As with our other new ASB branches, there will also be a dedicated noticeboard for our community customers to advertise their upcoming local events," Mr Williams says.

"Many of our customers choose to come into a branch for face-to-face conversations with us about their banking needs so it's important for ASB to have a strong presence in the Mount. We invite ASB customers and Mount Maunganui residents and visitors along to our new branch on opening day," he says.

The new branch is due to open on 1 August, with a community fun day to be held at the branch on Saturday 30 July.
