LGNZ President and Vice President reappointed

13 JULY 2011

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule was reappointed unopposed as President of Local Government New Zealand today in Wellington at the organisation's Annual General Meeting.

Mr Yule has been elected for his second three-year term as President after originally being voted in to the position in 2008.

Priorities in the next term will include establishing an even stronger relationship with central government, said Mr Yule.

"Together with the LGNZ National Council and our members I will be working to develop terms of engagement between central and local government, align local government and central government decision-making and establish local government's proper place in New Zealand's constitution," said Mr Yule.

Also at the meeting Opotiki District Council Mayor John Forbes was appointed to the position of Vice President following an election. Mr Forbes will fill the role for the three-year term through to 2014.
