Last Crop By Yamanin Vital in South Island Sale
Last Crop By Yamanin Vital in South Island Sale
In 2009 the South Island stallion ranks received an untimely blow with the sad passing of Yamanin Vital, and the 2011 South Island Sale will see some of the last of his two-year-old progeny pass through the Canterbury Agricultural Park sales ring.
Standing at White Robe Lodge in Otago during his stud career, Yamanin Vital (Sir Tristram x She Might Hula, by Caucasus) chalked up a good record as a sire with his 120 winners to date seeing some very talented performers on the turf in New Zealand, Australia and Asia.
The sire of 10 stakes winners worldwide, Yamanin Vital's most recent Group 1 winner is the Gai Waterhouse trained Herculian Prince. Sourced from the New Zealand tracks by astute bloodstock agent Phil Catalado for the Waterhouse stable, Herculian Prince (NZ) has proven himself a top line Group 1 performer in Sydney.
His nine career wins have seen him take out the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap (2400m), the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes and two further Australian black-type races, for stakes earnings in excess of half-a-million dollars.
Other leading progeny by Yamanin Vital include Cluden Creek whose nine career wins included the Group 1 Wellington Cup, Cut the Cake who won the Group 1 New Zealand Derby, and Group and stakes winners Trebla, Inferno, Requisite, Relampago, Heureka, Son of the Oak and Rosa Marada.
Boasting a runners to winners ratio of almost 55%, Yamanin Vital's progeny have earned over $7.9 million worldwide.
Fittingly, New Zealand Bloodstock's South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds & Mixed Bloodstock will see White Robe Lodge be the exclusive vendor of Yamanin Vital's progeny, with nine two-year-old colts included in their draft.
"He is a very under-rated sire Yamanin Vital. He took a bit of time to become established in New Zealand as he was raced in Japan but he has been a wonderful sire for us," said Wayne Stewart of White Robe Lodge.
"The last few years has seen his best horses come through on the track, and over the same period the standard of mares he was receiving were very good.
"He was a well performed son of Sir Tristram and his best performed sons seem to do the best at stud, and it shows as Yamanin Vital's progeny are tough and are competitive on both sides of the Tasman and further afield.
"This season has seen his progeny continue to excel on the track. In New Zealand his daughter Inferno won the Group 3 Canterbury Gold Cup, and horses in Australia such as Beijing Boy, who has won eight of his race day starts, and Mikiyama who has made a very promising start to her career for Chris Waller, continue to race well in strong company.
"This year's South Island Sale draft is one of Yamanin Vital's best; there are some good strong types on offer, some of which have full older siblings that have put in good winning performances on the track."
The White Robe Lodge draft will also feature six colts from their resident sire Gallant Guru (Montjeu x Proud Halo by Don't Say Halo) who won the Group 2 Sandown Classic in a track record time and the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. His oldest progeny are currently two-year-olds.
"Gallant Guru is a lovely type, we have had solid interest and bookings to him for the spring and we have high expectations for his progeny as they come into their three-year-old season," said Stewart.
