Birds Rescued the Fastway
The wild weather that has hit the country in the past week has not only disrupted residents but also our feathered friends, especially the prion species of bird. Whilst Fastway Courier Franchisee, Chris Wilson, was carrying out his daily deliveries in his Kapiti territory he noticed a few injured birds on the side of the road. During the day he ended up rescuing 12 Prion birds, and delivering them to the Waikanae SPCA where they could be assessed for treatment.
Both the Fastway Couriers Regional Franchises in Kapiti and Wellington have transported approximately 400 birds from the SPCA in Waikanae to the Wellington Zoo free of charge. The birds will get full veterinary treatment, before being released back into the wild. “It’s great to be able to offer an amazing community organisation like the SPCA a little bit of help when their resources are stretched to the max” says Fastway Couriers (Kapiti) Regional Franchisee, Gary Duncan. The team at Fastway will continue to make rescue deliveries to the SPCA and Wellington Zoo while this wildlife rescue continues.
