Mobile Job Seekers Top 100,000 In June
Kiwis conducted over 100,000 job searches on their mobile phones in June. This is an increase of over 60% since SEEK mobile launched in December 2010 and further evidence of the growth in the penetration of smart phones and use of their applications.
The number of visitors to SEEK’s dedicated mobile site has almost tripled in the last seven months. At launch in December, SEEK Mobile attracted a substantial 38,000 visitors and visits continue to significantly increase, tipping the tonne mark in June.
SEEK has launched two dedicated mobile tools in the last eight months, SEEK Mobile and SEEK Mobile Apply. Mobile Apply allows jobseekers that currently use their mobile phone to search for jobs and receive SEEK alerts to instantly apply for any role. Using their SEEK account applications can be submitted at the touch of a button.
This focus on mobile services has been in direct response to the demand by Kiwis to make jobseeking more accessible and convenient. Janet Faulding, General Manager of SEEK New Zealand explains;
“Jobseekers don’t want to be confined by location or access to a computer when looking for a new role, they want a service that fits with their pace of life and mobility. The daily commute, lunch breaks or even the departure lounges at the airport are now all jobseeking locations, thanks to SEEK mobile,” says Janet Faulding.
“Not only does this offer convenience but discretion, the two things top of mind for all Kiwi jobseekers”.
Every two out of three mobile phones sold in New Zealand is a smart phone and it is estimated that there are now 300,000 handsets in use. As this growth continues so to will the use of innovative sites like SEEK Mobile.
“Everything we do is geared to meet the changing needs of jobseekers. The world is becoming increasingly mobile and SEEK understands the implications this has for everyday life. SEEK Mobile and Mobile Apply are simple and easy to use, allowing more Kiwis the opportunity to search and apply for 16,000 jobs listed on www.seek.co.nz anytime, anywhere.”
