New car showroom rolls into Remarkables Park Town Centre

New car showroom rolls into Remarkables Park Town Centre

Otago-based brothers and businessmen Ken and Pat Cummings will open a new car dealership, Queenstown Motor Group, in Remarkables Park Town Centre later this year.

To be located in a brand new building at 2 Hawthorne Drive, directly opposite New World Wakatipu, the dealership will carry major 4WD brands Audi, Volkswagen and Subaru for buyers in Queenstown, Wanaka, Southern Lakes and Central Otago regions.

Managing Director of the Motor Group, Ken, has more than 38 years’ experience in the motor industry with Southern Motor Court and Southern Honda in Dunedin, Southern Automobiles and Southland Honda in Invercargill, and an existing service facility in Glenda Drive, Queenstown.

“We’re looking forward to making these brands available right here in Queenstown and to building our existing client base in the town. These cars are very familiar and popular throughout this region because they are well suited to the outdoors lifestyle, the climatic conditions and mountainous roads that Otago and Southland people live amongst. We think people will love being able to deal with us right here in town.”

Pat Cummings, co-director of Kenton Investments Limited, the property company developing the dealership, said the brothers had bought the site from the Porter brothers of Remarkables Park Limited and were delighted with the high profile site.

“It’s highly visible and Remarkables Park Town Centre is an ideal location for this business. We’ve enjoyed a good working relationship with Remarkables Park Limited with two sets of brothers knocking together a deal that works for everyone. We’re delighted with the design created by local architect David Stringer of David Stringer Architects Ltd and look forward to working with building company Rilean Construction to complete the showroom.”

He said the company’s decision to make the multi-million dollar investment in Queenstown was in response to huge growth in the region and demand for a local dealership.

“This showroom has been some years in the making. We’ve been watching the market and looking for the right position and right time. We expect this dealership to serve the motoring needs of the wider Southern Lakes community.”

Rilean Construction Director Steve McLean said the building proposal for Queenstown Motor Group presented his team with an attractive design and that the company was committed to completing in time and within budget.

“It’s great to get our teeth into a high profile new commercial building in this market. We’re keen and ready to get started with site fencing and leveling getting underway within the next few days. We are confident that the public will like the end result. The building’s well suited to the site and furthers the development of the Remarkables Park area.”

The new showroom is expected to be open by Christmas 2011.
