Orcon unbundles five more Hamilton exchanges
Orcon has today unbundled five additional Hamilton exchanges, bringing more competition to the city’s internet market.
The five exchanges are Hamilton East, Te Rapa, Melville, Frankton and Claudelands, and cover more than 21,000 home and business subscribers.
From today (28 July) households and businesses in the five suburbs can sign up for Orcon’s local loop unbundled (LLU) telephone and ADSL2+ broadband network service known as Orcon+.
Orcon unbundled the Hamilton City exchange in January 2011 and the company says the move to unbundle a further five suburbs is evidence of its ongoing commitment to providing next generation broadband to all New Zealanders.
“The unbundling of the Hamilton City exchange was so successful it was a logical next step for us to extend the service to even more businesses and residents in the Hamilton area,” says Taryn Hamilton, GM of Retail at Orcon.
“There’s no question the city is undergoing substantial growth and we’re pleased to be able to extend our offering to a wider audience and help drive competition and quality of service to Hamilton residents and businesses.”
During 2011 Orcon has unbundled six cities including Rotorua, Tauranga and Palmerston North, and its first-ever exchanges in the South Island – Christchurch Central and Dunedin Central.
Orcon was the first provider to introduce new phone and internet plans following the Government’s decision in late 2006 to ‘unbundle’ the local loop, the copper wires that link homes to their neighbourhood exchanges.
The next-generation Orcon+ network features a range of plans that give both residential and business customers access to ‘world-class’ broadband as well as features such as unlimited calling throughout New Zealand.
The ultimate residential package includes an unlimited number of overseas calls to one of 16 countries of the subscriber’s choice.
Hamilton residents can sign up for Orcon+ by calling 0800 564 687 or by visiting www.orcon.net.nz
