Limited Edition Suzuki Swift Launches
Extra luxury and equipment have been added to a new variant in the line-up of top-selling Suzuki Swift models.
The RS version of the Swift five-door hatchback is the first limited edition since the arrival of the new generation series earlier this year.
With its comprehensive level of standard equipment, the RS is the best specified Swift ever sold in New Zealand.
It is also the first Swift model to be equipped with keyless locking and unlocking, and the push button start/stop facility which is inherited from the flagship Suzuki Kizashi sedan.
Drivers can simply keep the ignition key in their pocket or handbag and unlock and lock the car and operate the vehicle without using the key.
There is added opportunity to select an ideal driving position with the fitment of a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering column.
Full climate control with half degree alterations and digital readout replaces standard air conditioning on other Swifts, and the RS also has Bluetooth hands-free mobile telephone connection.
A six-speaker audio includes a USB input for MP3 or iPod music player functions, and can be controlled by switches on the steering wheel.
Four wheel disc brakes, previously only available on the high performance Swift Sport model, are standard on the Swift RS, as are 16-inch diameter aluminium alloy wheels shod with 185/55 size tyres.
The Swift RS comes with a 5 Star Euro NCAP safety rating and is fitted with anti-lock (ABS) braking with EBD and an electronic stability programme. There are seven airbags and a decoupling mechanism for the brake and clutch pedals.
New Swift has been manufactured with Suzuki’s total effective control technology (TECT) incorporating higher strength steel in the body for greater safety.
Front fog lamps are standard, and the RS can be distinguished by a rear upper spoiler and RS badging.
In spite of the many improvements, the recommended retail price for the Swift RS manual is only $1,490 more than the equivalent Swift LTD.
The Swift RS 5-speed manual is priced at $24,990, while the four-stage automatic transmission version is $26,500. Included in these prices is Suzuki’s Real Value package comprising 12 months registration, Warrant of Fitness, three year/100,000 kilometre warranty and five-year roadside assistance.
The new lightweight 1.4-litre K14B four-cylinder engine introduced for the latest generation Swift is retained for the RS version. Offering spritely performance, this efficient power unit produces 70 kW of power while averaging 5.5 litres/100 km in the combined fuel cycle, or 6.2 litres/100 km for the automatic.
“As car buyers downscale they are wanting the same luxury levels of larger cars, and the new Swift RS is a direct consequence of this trend,” said Tom Peck, General Manager of Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand.
“New Zealand’s favourite small car has grown up without losing any of its playfulness and charm and the RS just adds that extra touch of refinement and equipment,” he said.
More than two million Swifts have been sold, and the model is now sold in 124 countries. In July, Swift was the first ever Suzuki passenger car model to take the number one position for January to July sales.
