Emirates Leads International Mobile Boarding
Emirates has become the first airline in New Zealand to offer smartphone users on international flights the opportunity to speed up boarding with a mobile boarding pass.
The new mobile boarding system available at Auckland Airport from this week will allow international passengers to board with a barcode accessible via a link sent directly to their smartphone.
Chris Lethbridge, Emirates regional manager in New Zealand, says the airline’s increasing number of smartphone travellers will appreciate the convenience of the new system, particularly those travelling to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
“We know that many Emirates passengers use smartphones constantly for business and in their daily lives. As such, it is a natural progression to offer those travellers the convenience of using their mobile to board an international flight.
“Emirates is conscious of the time consuming nature of international travel and we are always seeking ways to streamline the process for our customers.â€
With this development in international boarding technology, passengers with cabin luggage only will be able to bypass check-in and head directly for the gate. The system is expected to reduce wait times, particularly during heavily congested periods.
Mobile check-in is available for passengers 24 hours to 90 minutes prior to the scheduled time of departure.
Emirates flies four times daily from New Zealand to Dubai and beyond via Australia.
