Rugby World Cup visitors add to our candidate pool
A number of overseas visitors who are in New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup are contacting recruiters to set up job interviews and explore the recruitment possibilities while they are here, says recruiting experts Hays.
We started to experience increased interest one month out from kick-off, with a spike in the number of calls from overseas candidates who planned to be here for the Rugby World Cup and who wanted to look at opportunities in the local jobs market while they are here, says Jason Walker, Managing Director of Hays in New Zealand.
Were now also receiving calls from people who are here and want to know about current projects and job opportunities. They are sending through their CV so we can put them forward for suitable roles and line up interviews while they are here. If they like what they see, and can secure a local job, they want to relocate here for a few years.
Given recent global economic turbulence, these candidates tell us they see the New Zealand market as more stable. Those in the construction industry in particular are asking about possible opportunities on the Christchurch rebuild.
