Bay of Plenty Sustainable Business Network Awards highlight region’s best

The Bay of Plenty Sustainable Business Network Awards highlighted some of the region’s top sustainable businesses in Tauranga yesterday.

From food to local government, the winners demonstrated that sustainability can be incorporated into business in any industry.

SBN Bay of Plenty Regional Manager, Jo Wills, said the winners and commendations demonstrate these companies commitment to sustainability by setting, and transparently working towards, significant sustainable objectives, and by acting as role models for others in the region.

“The calibre of entrants was extremely high and the judging panel certainly had their work cut out for them. I’m very impressed with the great initiatives these organisations have in place – they’ve once again reinforced the business case for sustainability,” said Ms Wills.

SCA Hygiene Australasia took out the Trailblazer Large and Corporate Business Award and the overall title of Sustainable Business of the Year. The judges were impressed with SCA Hygiene’s continual development approach, praising the company for its strong sustainability vision with a structure in place to support, at an operational level.

The Emerging Small and Medium Business award was given to Isthmus, a New Zealand-based design practice specialising in landscape architecture, urban design and landscape planning. The judges were impressed with Isthmus’ commitment to design excellence, and their value driven approach to sustainable practices and their sustainability journey.

Tauranga City Council received the Not for Profit category award. The judges commented in particular on their commitment from top down that ensures sustainability is a strategic part of the Council’s entire operation.

Florentines, a well-known patisserie based in Tauranga won the Productivity Award category. Their integration of productivity tools in every aspect of their business impressed the judges. They were also impressed by Florentines introduction of new systems to help solve and identify problems.
