BP pleased to provide cheaper fuel with AA Smartfuel

EMBARGOED UNTIL 12 noon, Tuesday 11 October, 2011

BP pleased to provide cheaper fuel with AA Smartfuel

BP NZ managing director Mike McGuinness today welcomed the launch of the AA Smartfuel programme, which will allow BP customers to redeem up to 50 litres of free fuel every time they fill up.

Under the AA Smartfuel programme, motorists can collect fuel discounts from a diverse range of retailers from all over the country and combine them to create large discounts rewards each time they fill up - up to 50 litres of free fuel.

"This programme is going to provide significant savings for our customers," Mr McGuinness said. "We know the rising cost of fuel is placing pressure on family budgets. Most of the factors influencing this, such as international cost of crude oil and the foreign exchange rate, are out of our control. So we're pleased to be involved in a scheme that will provide our customers with significant savings every time they fill up. We look forward to filling up our customers' tanks for free."
The AA Smartfuel programme will begin 7 November and replaces the AA Rewards scheme which has been offered through BP for 13 years. "Our customers have often asked for fuel discount rewards and now we are giving them that. And even better, we're extending the offer to all our customers, not just AA members."

"For a long time people have been questioning the value of loyalty programmes. How much do have to spend to get a free toaster? And I don't even want a toaster! We've answered that with AA Smartfuel. Customers are rewarded with real savings on their fuel. And they don't have to wait until they've saved up their points. It's instant," Mr McGuinness said.

AA will announce the list of participating retailers closer to the launch date.
