Solta, first NZ company to join ng Connect Program

Solta, first New Zealand company to join ng Connect Program, to take its live event video-casting to the world

AUCKLAND, OCTOBER 20, 2011 –

Solta, a technology innovation company based in New Zealand, today announced it has joined the global ng Connect Program the multi-industry open innovation ecosystem founded by Alcatel-Lucent and focused on creating next generation connected user experiences. Solta has now joined the ng Connect Program to further its work on real-time video-casting to mobile devices through collaboration with program members.

Solta's membership was announced at the official New Zealand launch of ng Connect at Telecom House last night, where Alcatel-Lucent has been hosting an LTE showcase of mobile technology from other ng Connect global members.

By joining the program, Solta plans to take its mobile live content delivery technology to a global marketplace, collaborate with other members and help to drive the adoption of next generation technologies including LTE, multimedia and more.

Solta's 'myreplay', a platform that runs best on an LTE mobile network, enables real-time footage at an event to be video-cast to mobile devices. It allows attendees at an event to become their own editor of the coverage, choose the camera angle they want, replay the footage they want to see again and select the commentary they listen to.

"We're honoured to be the first New Zealand company invited to be part of ng Connect," says Solta's Managing Director, Mark Povey. "For us, speed is life. This model of collaboration will help us overcome distance and give us a seat at the table with other like-minded international players, while helping to increase our speed of development. And crucially, it provides our best innovators the opportunity to stay in New Zealand. We applaud Alcatel-Lucent for having the vision to bring the ng Connect Program to New Zealand. We are also excited and inspired to provide feedback and input to other members in the Program and contribute to this interactive community."

Jason Collins, VP of Emerging Technology and Innovation for Alcatel-Lucent and lead for the ng Connect Program says, "We're excited about what Solta can bring to the ng Connect Program. The mobile rich media market is explosive and the demand for online video is predicted to continue its double-digit year-to-year growth for the next several years. Solta's myreplay technology capitalises on our insatiable appetite for live content and combines it with the action of a live event experience. We're committed to growing New Zealand's presence in the Program and fostering innovation in this market. Innovation isn't solely limited to developers - it's about bringing together academia, creative industries, entrepreneurs, network operators, device manufacturers for example, and increasing their collective brain power to create meaningful products that can flourish commercially."
