Recommendation to create Māori predictive txt database

Recommendation to update the NZ predictive TXT database: to create a new Māori predictive TXT database

Stalwart of Māori ICT resources Karaitiana Taiuru has compiled a complete Māori txt list with no copyright restrictions. The list is based on word frequency lists and common Māori words in the English language.

The list contains 465 Māori words that commonly appear in the English language. Karaitiana Taiuru believes this list should be incorporated into a default New Zealand English dictionary for mobile phones.

The original list distributed by Telecom New Zealand in 2009 only contains only a minority of common Māori words in the English language and in the Māori language said Karaitiana Taiuru.

Taiuru suggests that a separate Māori Language predictive txt dictionary should be created specifically for Māori speakers based on research of common Maori words that are used by Maori speakers.

The list is offered under the Creative Commons licence so that any telco, developer or manufacturer can use the list freely without ownership concerns.

The list, research and commentary are available from http://www.taiuru.maori.nz/predictive-maori-txt-word-list/
