Roll up lunch box wins regional award
An innovative lunch bag designed by St Cuthbert’s College students won the top prize at last night’s Auckland central regional awards for the 2011 Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme.
Student company, Le Lunch, won the Auckland Chamber of Commerce Company of the Year award with its unique and reuseable lunch bags that roll-up to accommodate changing volumes of food. The team was also one of the companies who won The Edge Excellence in Communication Award.
150 people attended the Auckland central regional awards to mark the end of the nationwide school-based programme for 2011.
Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development runs the programme in north, central and south Auckland and is pleased with the abilities of student companies on show this year.
“Le Lunch proves that coming up with an innovative business idea is sometimes as easy as solving a common problem. It is the fresh thinking, simple and practical solutions that can be successful, “says Ngaio Merrick, Manager Business Development – North.
“Throughout the year, Le Lunch has shown incredible insight, passion and commitment to the programme – traits that would be invaluable for a future business. It is encouraging that these students are the future of our business community.”
Other top awards went to Rice from Diocesan School who won the Auckland Chamber of Commerce Runner Up Company of the Year for its charity bracelets containing a grain of rice with motivational words such as “hope” and “love” engraved on it, to raise money for malnourished children in Niger.
Last night’s awards is not the first regional recognition for Le Lunch, who finished third at the YES Oral Business Plan Presentation Final earlier this year and won the business card design competition.
Le Lunch will now compete for the New Zealand title at the national Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme Awards in Wellington on December 1st, 2011.
