Prime Minister takes to the trees in Queenstown with Ziptrek Ecotours
Prime Minister John Key took to the trees high above Queenstown this morning (Friday November 18) with a visit to leading sustainable tourism business Ziptrek Ecotours.
Following his tourism policy announcement in a downtown Queenstown hotel earlier in the morning, the PM visited Ziptrek as one of the newest and most successful tourism businesses in the resort.
Talking to Ziptrek Ecotours General Manager Stu Cordelle, staff members and four guests about to embark on a flying fox adventure, he expressed his views on the importance of tourism to the economy.
“He said he was committed to being the Minister of Tourism again and maintaining current funding, although did not rule out increased funding for tourism in the future,” said Mr Cordelle.
“We were delighted to have him visit our Ziptrek treehouse so he could see first-hand how a relatively new tourism business has developed and grown in just two years of operation.
“He had a good look down the hill towards our bottom treehouse and said he would love to come back without the media entourage, but with his family, to do the tour.
“We’d love to have the prime minister and his family zip down our ziplines and experience what visitors from New Zealand and all around the world have raved about.”
