Fidelity Life appoints new director

New Zealand-owned life insurance provider Fidelity Life has appointed Anne Blackburn to the board of directors.

Fidelity Life board chairman Ian Braddock said: "Anne has extensive financial services and corporate governance experience, making her an excellent addition to the boardroom."

Anne Blackburn has a strong banking background and also worked early in her career as a journalist and a diplomat. She spent 15 years in investment banks in New York and London, returning to New Zealand in the mid 1990s. Her career in New Zealand resumed with a stint leading the capital markets activities of one of the major local banks.

Over the last decade she has focused on a portfolio of directorships. They have included businesses in the private, not for profit and central and local government sectors across financial services, infrastructure and creative industries.

On her appointment Anne Blackburn commented: "I am delighted and looking forward to working alongside an experienced and talented team to help maintain the success and longevity of Fidelity Life started back in 1973."

Fidelity Life recently released its 2011 annual report, announcing a record net profit of $18.3 million after tax for the year ended 30 June.

The annual report sets out the key financial results, the current operating environment, the main challenges Fidelity Life is facing and the wider activities the company has undertaken to help improve its business for stakeholders.
