Whitcoulls Unveils the New Kobo Vox Ereader

Having launched the first e-Reader in New Zealand, Whitcoulls is now confirming its leading position with the introduction of the new Kobo VOX eReader.

“We are excited to be able to deliver the brand new, innovative, Kobo Vox eReader experience to Whitcoulls customers,” said Michael Serbinis, CEO, Kobo, Inc. “We remain focused on offering the best and most innovative eReading experience to deliver on our goal of making eReading available to everyone, everywhere around the world. With the combination of a beautiful product, incredible video and audio functionality and now with the advent of social reading, the Kobo Vox is unlike any eReading product available in New Zealand today.”

The 7” colour, wi-fi Kobo Vox is not only an eReader but, at $399, one of the best value
Android-supported tablets on the market. In addition to reading - Kobo Vox users can easily browse the Web, check email, listen to music, watch movies, play games and store personal photos.

“The Kobo Vox takes eReaders to a new level. It’s safe to say the world’s largest bookstore just got a whole lot better,” says Whitcoulls General Merchandise Manager, Jacquie Dabrowski. “Kiwis really welcomed the Kobo eReader when we launched it last year and we’re delighted to once again be the exclusive New Zealand retailer to offer customers this exciting new eReading experience.”

The Kobo Vox eReader, which is available in four colours – hot pink, lime green, ice blue and black, has a seven-inch, anti-glare full colour screen, plus video and audio technology. It can hold up to 40,000 books and has access to 2.2 million e-books in total. Local New Zealand book titles are constantly expanding to include classics such as “The Whale Rider” by Witi Ihimaera, to more recent releases from Paul Henry, John Kirwan and Laurence Fearnley’s “The Hut Builder”. Magazine titles are also becoming increasingly available with popular names such as Dish, Entangled, NZ House & Garden, Cuisine, Wilderness, NZ Rugby World, D-Photo, NZ Autocar, Spoke, Dive Pacific and NZ Today.

Also available on the Kobo Vox eReader is Kobo’s industry leading social reading platform - Reading Life. With Reading Life users can now choose to connect with friends or create book clubs and discuss their favourite reads on Facebook, track their reading statistics, and unlock fun and exciting awards just for reading. The recent enhancement of Kobo Pulse™ takes social reading to a new level - readers can feel the pulse of a book, start conversations, share comments and thoughts and leave reviews.

“If you want an eReader that not only lets you read thousands of books but also allows you to access social media and email, search the internet, listen to music, play games and watch videos, then the Kobo Vox is for you. It is the ultimate e-reader, and will be a hugely popular gift this Christmas” says Dabrowski

“However, if you’re a dedicated reading buff who wants a light, easy-to-use, fast touch screen that can go with you anywhere, then go for the recently released Kobo Touch.”

Already an extremely popular device with the Whitcoulls customers, the Kobo Touch is a classic e-reader with an easy-to-use 6” e-ink touch screen that makes e-reading easier than ever. It now costs just $199 and offers fantastic value as a dedicated e-reading solution. Weighing a mere 185gms, the Kobo Touch offers 17 different font sizes – perfect for those who need a larger font size for reading. A great range of colours are available – Black, Silver, Blue and Lilac. The Kobo Touch is small enough to fit in a pocket so can be taken anywhere – perfect for the beach, park or bach this summer.

“Given the success and customer uptake of our Kobo devices to date, we’re expecting both Kobo Touch and Kobo Vox to sell like hot cakes in the lead-up to Christmas,” says Dabrowski
