Don’t Forget Mother Nature This Christmas

Media Release December 2011

Don’t Forget Mother Nature This Christmas

We rarely consider the planet when purchasing our Christmas presents, so maybe it’s time we started to think of ways to give back to Mother Earth at this time of year. In a bid to reduce the carbon footprint and make Christmas shopping easier, Botany Town Centre has teamed up with Urgent Couriers and Auckland Transport to offer those who have come to the centre via public transport, or by bike, the opportunity to have their gifts couriered home for free.

Shoppers can take their gift packages to the Botany Town Centre Information Desk (outside Farmers) and all items received before 4pm will be delivered between 6pm and 8pm the same night, with weekend purchases delivered on Monday evening.

Urgent Couriers is offering its Urgent Tonight service to Botany Town Centre shoppers from Saturday 17 December to Saturday 24 December 2011.

“Taking public transport at Christmas time can be a great alternative to the infamous car park queues we all know of. We are thrilled to partner up with these two organisations and offer shoppers an option that will make life less stressful,” says Botany Town Centre senior marketing manager Desiree Clark.

“We encourage families to come onboard for this initiative and see first hand the ease of public transport and environmental benefits.”

For shoppers who already rely on public transport, the Botany Shopping Sleigh will give them the chance to do all their shopping at once, without worrying about how to get it home.

“Urgent Couriers is delighted to offer shoppers at Botany Town Centre an extra hand throughout the busy Christmas period,” says Urgent Couriers managing director Steve Bonnici. “We believe that this service will not only help to reduce traffic around the centre during this busy time of year, but will also encourage people to use public transport.”

Urgent Couriers is New Zealand’s only carbon neutral courier service, making a conscious effort to reduce carbon emissions.

The offer for free home delivery will apply to all purchases over $50 (excluding supermarket, perishables and big ticket items) and can be redeemed upon presentation of receipts and a current bus ticket or cycling helmet to the Botany Town Centre Information Desk.

The Urgent Tonight service is available to those living between a designated area from Botany Town Centre which includes areas as far north as Albany and as far south as Takanini. The full delivery area can be found at http://www.urgenttonight.co.nz/Area.aspx.

Full terms and conditions can be found on the Botany Town Centre website www.botanytowncentre.co.nz.

Botany Town Centre is also working with retailers this Christmas by introducing them to the variety of transport options on offer. On Tuesday 13 December, the centre will be hosting the Car-less Christmas Expo with the help of Auckland Transport and will be providing retailers with information on how to get to and from the centre, minus the car.

Auckland Transport will be giving away free bus passes to encourage retailers to give public transport a try. Or for those who are more active, walking and cycling maps have been created showing easy access ways within a two kilometre radius of the centre.
