There’s an old truism that you only realise the value of something once it’s gone, and it’s a saying that could be readily applied to those big ticket events that act to stimulate an economy.
After a few months where it was almost impossible to avoid Rugby World Cup 2011, November’s statistics provide us with the first solid snapshot of a more normalised economy and spending patterns.
It’s quite logical to expect spending in some sectors would be less exuberant than others in the months immediately prior. But as previous years have illustrated, November can be a month that produces a very mixed bag of spending signals that are most valuable when viewed in context.
