Suzuki Swift Tops For Private Car
Buyers In New Zealand
The Suzuki Swift is the most
popular model for private new car buyers in New Zealand for
the second successive year.
It was a clear leader in
private new car sales last year, selling almost twice as
many as its nearest rival, the Toyota Corolla.
The
Swift captured 6.3 per cent of all private new car and
commercial vehicle sales in 2011, with 1,546
registrations.
“Our best selling Swift is easily the
most preferred car when people are spending their own
money,” said Tom Peck, General Manager of Marketing for
Suzuki New Zealand.
“Although the Corolla was the
top seller in overall private and commercial or business
purchasers, its private sales of 814 represented just 3.3
per cent of the private market segment for all new cars and
commercial vehicles,” he said.
Just over 53 per cent
of the 2,892 new Swift sales went to private buyers, while
19.5 per cent of Corolla purchasers were private
sales.
The top eight favourite models among private
buyers accounted for one quarter of all new motor vehicle
sales last year.
The Swift has been Suzuki’s
most popular model since 2005, and the best selling small
car in New Zealand for a record-breaking seven
years.
Five versions of the five-door Swift are
available, including automatic variants, and the range will
be extended in a few weeks with the arrival of a flagship
Sport performance model.
