Record week at Auckland Airport
Record week at Auckland Airport driven by high
travel demand
Auckland
Airport today announced that the week ending 8th January
2012 saw the highest demand for international travel ever
experienced at New Zealand’s largest airport.
General manager aeronautical operations, Judy Nicholl, said, “There were over 170,000 international arrivals or departures during the week. This is more than any other recorded week, even the peak periods experienced during the final stages of the RWC 2011.”
“This result indicates that despite some challenging economic conditions, more people than ever are willing and able to travel internationally to and from New Zealand.”
Auckland Airport also acknowledged the work of its many airport partners in ensuring that the very high numbers of travellers during this peak season are processed smoothly and efficiently and that their first and last impressions of New Zealand are positive.
“Many different organisations are involved in the successful running of a major international airport, including border agencies, airlines, retailers, food & beverage suppliers, Police, ground-handlers, cleaners, and taxi-drivers. Everyone at the airport has an important role in growing New Zealand’s reputation as a great place to visit”, said Ms Nicholl.
