Christmas Tills Ring with 101 Million Retail Transactions

Executive Summary

December has always been a big month for shopping, but this festive season consumers delivered a firm and positive message about how they like to pay. After chalking up steady annual growth for the last decade, electronic card transactions (ECT) in the retail sector surpassed 100 million in a single month for the first time, climbing from 96 million in December 2010 to 101 million in December 2011. The number of card transactions hit 117 million in total – also a record.
