Builders’ seminar on major licensing changes heads to Gisborne

A practical series of seminars for builders is being held across New Zealand and is adding real value according to those who’ve attended already. A local seminar will be held in Gisborne at ITM on Monday 5 March at 5.30 pm.

Certified Builders is working with the Department of Building and Housing and Winstone Wallboards to bring builders up to speed with the new Licenses Building Practitioners legislation that is effective from 1 March 2012.

Certified Builders CEO Grant Florence said that the seminars would cover the restricted building work activities that licensed builders will be able to undertake within their licence.

Mr Florence said, “Other topics to be covered will include the effects on building consent processes, educating apprentices under this scheme and the overall impacts of the new licensing scheme.” He has been really pleased with the turnout so far and the positive response from builders who have attended.

“As an organisation, we promote professionalism in the construction industry and this is one more way that Certified Builders can help increase capacity amongst the country’s builders,” Mr Florence said.

The seminars started on 7 February in Invercargill and will finish in Tauranga on 26 March.

Local builder, Jason McClintock said that the event coming to Gisborne would provide builders in the area with a great opportunity to increase their knowledge of how the licensing scheme will affect them.
