Unison Lines up for Fourth Season

Friday 2 March 2012 - Unison will once again be getting behind the region’s rugby, with its continued support of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union.

Unison Group Chief Executive Ken Sutherland says the aim of the partnership is to help grow the game locally.

“Our sponsorship means we can support the community at a grassroots level. It is a fantastic way to grow the game locally and to recognise the great support of the volunteer coaches, referees and family members that make this programme possible.”

Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union CEO Mike Bishop says the Union is proud to have Unison on board.

“Unison has a long-standing reputation for commitment to their community. With their support, participation at the junior level of the game has increased by 5%.”

Unison will be providing junior rugby players with a goodie bag, as well as supplying clubs and coaches with key equipment. The popular Unison Medal will again recognise players who have consistently shown great work ethic, discipline and sportsmanship.

And Unison also knows that for rugby to continue to thrive and grow, it requires great supporters that willingly coach, referee or just unconditionally support local club rugby within Hawke’s Bay. Those nominated will receive the ‘Hawke’s Bay Rugby’s Greatest Supporter Award’, and go in the draw for a daily prize pack and grand prize, announced on The Edge during July.

In an extension of Unison’s great support for grassroots rugby, Mr Sutherland also announced the move to support secondary school rugby, and asked players, coaches and parents to look out for some exciting Unison-led programmes at this level throughout the season.

“Hawke’s Bay has produced some of the country’s greatest All Blacks, and we’re proud to be able to connect at secondary school level to help our young players develop their skills and grow their passion for the sport.”
