New Office Bearers for the Association

At the Motor Industry Association’s Annual General Meeting held today, Mr Mark Gilbert Managing Director BMW Group New Zealand was elected unopposed, as President.

Mark replaces Mr Alistair Davis, Chief Executive Officer Toyota New Zealand Limited who has stepped down at the end of his two year term of office.

Mark has 25 years industry experience, commencing with Volvo (1985), before joining BMW (1988). His experience includes overseas assignments in Asia, where he established, and lead, a joint venture subsidiary in the Philippines. Mark returned to New Zealand and to his present role in January 2005.

As well as his involvement with the MIA Council (on which he has sat since 2005) Mark has represented BMW on the Executive Committee of the NZ Business Council for Sustainable Development since the company joined in 2008 and is an active participant of the Hugo Group.

To assist Mark, members appointed into the position of joint Vice President, Mr Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director, Mazda Motors New Zealand and Mr Bill Grice , Chief Executive Officer, Suzuki New Zealand Limited.

Andrew has worked in the automotive industry for 35 years and for the past 20 years with Mazda New Zealand. He took over the Managing Directors role in 2006. Andrew is also Chairman of the Mazda Foundation which provides charitable assistance to a broad cross - section of worthy entities.

Bill has a broad knowledge of the motor industry, having worked in the motorcycle and automobile sectors for more than 40 years. He holds the position of Chief Executive Officer with Suzuki New Zealand Ltd, a company he has been with over 30 years. In 2011 he was appointed a member of the newly established Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council.
