Voluntary Recall of Dulux Plush Toy Dogs

14 March 2012
Voluntary Recall of Dulux Plush Toy Dogs

Dulux New Zealand is voluntarily recalling the Dulux plush toy dogs which were given away as part of the ‘Jelly Beans & me’ promotion during February and March this year. We are doing this because the ‘fur’, when pulled, sucked or chewed, may come away and present a choking hazard to small children.

“While we are not aware of any child having been injured from playing with these toys, we do know that one little boy was quite distressed when fur came away in his mouth. We are truly sorry for that, and in the interests of complete caution we would rather recall the dogs and alert parents to the potential hazard,” said Dulux New Zealand general manager Julia Myers.

“We are thankful that the little boy’s parents were vigilant and have brought the matter to our attention. We are equally thankful that the boy, as we understand it, is okay.

“This is our mistake and we are truly sorry for that. We will make sure that it does not happen again.

“We know that the ‘Jelly Beans & me’ toy dogs have been particularly popular with New Zealanders and we apologise for any inconvenience to our customers. However, what’s most important is ensuring that we provide a toy that meets the safety standards for children, and we are therefore immediately recalling the dogs.

“We ask that consumers immediately remove the toy dogs from reach of their children and contact us for information on how to return the dog. Consumers returning the dog will receive a replacement dog.”
