InternetNZ publishes results of Internet filtering survey

InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) has published the results of a survey on New Zealanders’ knowledge and opinions about the Digital Child Exploitation Filtering System (DCEFS).

The DCEFS is run by the Department of Internal Affairs and blocks websites that host child sexual abuse images. It is an optional service for Internet Service Providers (ISPs). When an ISP opts in, they filter the Internet connections of all their customers rather than giving them a choice between a filtered and unfiltered Internet connection. New Zealand’s three largest ISPs have opted-in to the DCEFS.

Some of the survey questions sought to gauge peoples’ knowledge on the DCEFS in particular, while others asked for opinions on Internet filtering in general.
