‘Hot’ new tourism products on show at TRENZ

When 314 international travel Buyers plus Media fly into Queenstown next month for TRENZ, the tourism industry’s most important annual trade event, they will be seeking new and exciting products and experiences they can put before consumers in their home markets.

They won’t be disappointed, says Tourism Industry Association New Zealand Communications Manager Ann-Marie Johnson.

“These travel Buyers, who are very influential in terms of ‘selling’ New Zealand to international consumers, will discover 78 new tourism products at TRENZ 2012 - everything from excursions on vintage steam trains to luxury lodges.”

Amongst the 271 New Zealand tourism operators exhibiting at TRENZ are 27 who are attending for the first time, tourism businesses that have met the criteria to attend this premier tourism trade show.

TRENZ 2012, on in Queenstown in the Southern Lakes 7-10 May, is a showcase for the best New Zealand’s multi-billion dollar tourism industry has to offer the world’s travellers.

“As part of that it is very important Destination New Zealand shows these international travel Buyers and Media what we have that is fresh and innovative so that they can incorporate those products into their New Zealand itineraries,” explains Ms Johnson.

“Tourism is a hugely competitive global business and travellers are always looking for what’s new and ‘hot’.”

Tourism operators exhibiting at TRENZ for the first time include Art Adventures, a Queenstown business that is targeting affluent visitors.

“My target market is primarily the international market, so the opportunity to meet overseas agents and Buyers at TRENZ will be very beneficial, particularly since Art Adventures is a new business and I am new to the game,” says Managing Director Alice Blackley.

“Future bookings are what I really want to get out of attending TRENZ. My business is niche and focused on quality not quantity. It is unique to Queenstown, so TRENZ is the window of opportunity, allowing me to introduce Art Adventures to the people who can help in circulating my business abroad.”

Adrenalin Forest is another first-time TRENZ Exhibitor. A high rope adventure operator that has parks in Wellington, Canterbury and Bay of Plenty, it sees TRENZ as an important part of its marketing mix, explains Managing Director Jean Caillabet.

“Now that we are well established and one of the fastest growing adventure tourism companies in New Zealand, it is time to tell the world we are here with more parks planned for the future.

“We feel it is important to be a part of the largest tourism show in New Zealand in order to further grow the business. We want to establish relationships with potential overseas and domestic clients, especially in the youth and backpacker markets but also free independent travellers and family groups.”

Other TRENZ Exhibitors have developed new products or upgraded existing ones. These include Peppers Beacon Resort in Queenstown, part of the luxury accommodation Peppers Group, which has just completed a $1 million refurbishment where the priority was to use local or Canterbury region suppliers wherever possible in an effort to support businesses and communities affected by the earthquakes.

Napier’s Art Deco Trust is launching three new products at TRENZ featuring vintage planes, bikes and guided walks around the city’s unique art deco buildings.

Guided Walks New Zealand, a Queenstown operator, is bringing a new interactive survival experience product to TRENZ 2012. YOU vs WILD is its version of the popular TV series, giving visitors the opportunity to experience what it’s like to survive off the land, make a fire and use the sun and stars as a compass.
