63,000 new jobs In Last 3 Months
63,000 jobs have been listed on New Zealand’s largest job site, seek.co.nz, since January this year.
The number of jobs listed with SEEK has risen steadily each month since January, good news for the employment market and an indication of strengthening conditions. SEEK New Zealand General Manager, Janet Faulding explains;
“Many employers have held off hiring new staff in recent times, choosing instead to ride out global economic uncertainty by rethinking the way they use existing resources. The growth we’ve seen in new jobs listed on SEEK so far this year signals an increasingly positive job market environment and employer confidence is on the up.”
Also increasing this quarter was the SEEK Employment Index (SEI), the ratio of new job ads placed on SEEK to the number of applications received for those jobs, with a rise of 4% from December. Ms Faulding explains;
“Applications for roles on SEEK are typically at their highest in the first quarter as Kiwis return from the New Year break full of enthusiasm to fulfill career-related resolutions. Despite this, new jobs have grown at a faster rate than applications since January meaning better conditions for jobseekers.”
Surprisingly, SEI growth was primarily
driven by the North Island in March after being propelled by
the South Island for the last six months, improving job
prospects nationwide.
“Current job market conditions as measured by the SEI mean there is greater opportunity for Kiwis keeping an eye out for a new role. There are currently more than 14,000 jobs listed on seek.co.nz so if you’re looking to make your next career move, jump on and take a look,” says Ms Faulding.
