Ultrafast Fibre begins preparatory work in Cambridge/Te Awamutu

Ultrafast Fibre Ltd has begun preparatory work in both Cambridge and Te Awamutu ahead of construction of both cities’ ultrafast broadband networks later this year.

Ultrafast Fibre crews are currently constructing a Ring Network, the infrastructure that is required to eventually connect both cities’ ultrafast broadband networks back to the company’s central offices in Hamilton.

Trench work is being carried out to lay the Ring Network duct and fibre cable. The company will begin constructing both cities’ broadband networks in July 2012.

CEO of Ultrafast Fibre, Maxine Elliott, says the company is committed to ensuring its construction of the Ring Network is the least disruptive as possible. “Building our Ring Network involves digging small trenches in front of properties to lay the duct and fibre cable. Our aim is to do this work as quickly as possible to minimise inconvenience to businesses and residents.”

The Ultrafast Fibre crews are also installing several cabinets throughout both cities, which are street boxes that enable connection between properties and the ultrafast broadband network.

The first premises in Cambridge and Te Awamutu will be able to start connecting to Ultrafast Fibre’s broadband network from October 2012. Construction of the network in each town will be completed during 2016.
