TRENZ 2012 ready to wow the world

TRENZ 2012 ready to wow the world

The Southern Lakes is rolling out the red carpet today for the opening of TRENZ 2012, the tourism industry’s annual showcase event, on 7-10 May at the Queenstown Events Centre.

More than 1000 delegates, including international travel Buyers and Media, New Zealand tourism operators and VIPs have descended on the alpine resort town for TRENZ, the most important trade event on the multi-billion dollar tourism industry’s calendar.

Over the next four days, the New Zealand tourism operators – who come from across the industry – will clock up almost 13,500 meetings in total with 308 invited travel Buyers from 30 markets from across the globe, from Australia, Malaysia and China to Germany, Canada and Brazil.

All hand-picked to attend TRENZ 2012, these Buyers are the most influential in terms of “selling” New Zealand to international travellers, says Tourism Industry Association Communications Manager Ann-Marie Johnson.

“TRENZ isn’t all about business meetings. It’s also our chance to ‘wow’ these influential international Buyers and Media,” says Ms Johnson.

Functions will be held at the TRENZ venue and at locations throughout Queenstown. These are an opportunity for delegates to network informally, and to showcase the resort and some great New Zealand food and beverages.”

Tonight Queenstown Airport will be transformed into the hottest venue in town for the TRENZ 2012 Southern Lakes Welcome Function.

On Wednesday afternoon in a major logistical exercise organised by Destination Queenstown, around 500 delegates will leave the TRENZ venue to try a local activity and get a first-hand look at why Lonely Planet named the Southern Lakes as one of the world’s top 10 regions to visit in 2012.

“They will experience the full gamut of visitor experiences, from river surfing, mountain biking and scenic flights to guided walks with tips for surviving in the wild, spas and a wine tour.

The farewell function will be held at Queenstown’s The Steamer Wharf on Thursday evening, spread across eight restaurants and bars and the vintage steamer The Earnslaw,” says Ms Johnson.

“When they return home we want these Buyers and Media to inspire consumers in their own country to make New Zealand a must visit destination now!”
