Mike Pero to back Round 4 - The Mike Pero 250

Mike Pero to back Round 4 - The Mike Pero 250

Long-time motorsport enthusiast and backer of Greg Murphy's Holden V8 SuperTourer - Mike Pero - is to sponsor the fourth round of the new V8 SuperTourer Series at Hampton Downs over the Queen’s Birthday holiday weekend of June 1-3 under his Mike Pero Real Estate and Mortgage brands.

Round 4 of the V8 SuperTourer Series - which will feature a 20 lap Preliminary Race on the Saturday then the 25 lap Preliminary Race and the 35 lap Feature Race on the Sunday - will be known as the Mike Pero 250.

All sixteen SuperTourer cars and drivers who have raced so far in the series will be running. In addition, at least one of the four new cars coming on stream will be debuting at the meeting, with an announcement to be made shortly. In addition, two of the other new teams to the series are currently working hard to complete construction of their new Commodore VEIIs with one of them likely to make what could become an 18 car line up for the Mike Pero 250.

Mike Pero is a long-time supporter of motorsport at all levels in New Zealand with a distinguished career of competing on both two and four wheels. After winning motorcycle road racing titles, Pero hung up his helmet for 20 years before turning to cars to co-drive the class-winning Commodore at the LK500 at Ruapuna in 2001, an event to which the V8 SuperTourer series in some ways owes its heritage.

After several years competing in the NZV8 and V8 Ute championships, Pero has come in as principal sponsor of Greg Murphy in the Mike Pero Real Estate/Mortgages-backed Holden V8 SuperTourer. Murphy dominated the first round of the series at Hampton Downs in February and, after being forced to miss Round 2 with a back injury, has bounced back to third overall and to be a real title contender for the Sprint Series title contest which concludes at Hampton Downs. As the title sponsor of the Hampton Downs Round, Pero has high hopes that Murphy will put on a repeat performance of his February dominance.

"It's been a spectacular start for the V8 SuperTourers, with plenty of fast and hard racing and action and it is a series which has brought a lot of people back to the race tracks," said Pero.

"We'll be cheering for Greg and M3 Racing for sure, but overall we're just excited to be associated with the series and such a high-profile live television broadcast event as this and very grateful to the hard work put in by the team at TV3 to make it all happen” said Pero.

“We're also very passionate (as is Greg Murphy) about the CASPER message – Community Action on Suicide Prevention Education & Research Awareness. Motorsport demographics and audiences are very much the target market for the CASPER message and we will be working with TV3 and V8 SuperTourers to promote the good work of the team at CASPER.”

V8 SuperTourers CEO Paul Radisich added: "We are naturally delighted that Mike has decided to put his name to a round of our series, especially its return to Hampton Downs. It does show that V8 SuperTourers are ticking many of the boxes when it comes to what major brands in New Zealand are looking for in their sponsorships.

“Mike is recognised as one of New Zealand’s foremost marketing specialists and it is a great encouragement to us that he recognises the value in being associated with V8 SuperTourers."
